The slower the airspeed, the greater the induced drag and the more energy is unnecessarily depleted. Figure 2, on page 18, graphically demonstrates why this is the case. Webincreases in proportion to the dynamic pressure that, in-turn, is proportional to the square of the indicated airspeed; this criteria is fairly easy to meet unless the aircraft has unusually high induced drag and/or a propulsion system whose thrust increases (rather than lapses) with increasing airspeed.
